channels I dont need

can I please pick only the channels I need and not the rest of the JUNK that is" included in the package" to bring up my bill???

for starters drop all non hd channels- I have new tvs and they are hd I NEVER WATCH NON HD, any shopping net work, every religious station, etc,etc

heres what I want ( all hd only) abc, nbc, cbs, fox. history, natgeo, discovery, espn 1 +2 ,velocity, bravo, comedy channel, mtv, vh1, amc, a&e,cnn, fox news channel,fs1,fx, hgtv, id.

thats it- 24 channels how much?????

if you guys sell 380 channels for $149 on a contour package thats about 40 cents a channel so my bill should be about $10.00 with 24 channels,(plus taxes and fees OF COURSE)

Why dont you try that out COX?????????

You would make many people happy!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,

Scott Davis

You are a newbie, aren't you? ESPN alone costs Cox over $4/month/subscriber.

A la carte won't exist as long as the major suppliers (ABC/Disney, Viacom, Turner, etc.) insist contractually that their programming be bunched in tiers with other programming. Read a little on the subject.

Why don't you try that out, Scott?

Yes, I KNOW THATS NOT HOW IT WORKS, but as a consumer why should I shoulder the cost on programming that is of no use to me. Just because the cable company wants to jam it down my throat doesn't mean I watch it. So go ahead and give be an "a la carte" menu and I will buy off of that. Just because corporations insist their programming be included doesn't mean that the industry can't change. How many channels do you NOT watch that you are paying for ,domino? I'll bet at least 1/2 the channels you have you do not watch. When I go to the grocery store to buy milk and eggs they also don't make me buy arugala and tampons. If enough people demand it the industry will have to make the change. I do realize that it probably will never happen in my life due to the overwhelming amount of people like yourself you just say "thats the way it is so I guess thats what I get"

I didn't go through you list in detail but AFAICS, your 24 channels are available with Essential service that lists for $73/mo.  The current a-la-cart rates go from $6/mo for CBS All Access to $15/mo for HBO Go.  Let's say in an a-la-cart TV world, each channel will charge half of what CBS currently charges, that's $3/mo per channel.  Your 24 channels comes out to $72/mo and that's assuming you could get the networks you want at that rate.  ESPN alone wholesales to the cableco's for over $6/mo, what they would charge for an a-la-cart service who knows ... I have seen posts predicting up to $36/mo for just that one channel.  I agree, we only watch 10% of the channels we subscribe to but I'm not sure picking my own will save me money.

Your griping about it here in a Technical Forum is doing nothing. As long as our nation's lawmakers continue to allow the program providers (Disney/ABC, Viacom, Turner, etc.) to demand tier carriage, we are stuck with tier packaging. And AllenP is right. If it now averages $0.10 per channel, you can look forward to about $1.00 per channel with a la carte. And in your grocery store comparison, if the same company made milk, eggs, arugula and tampons, and our government allowed them to demand they were all sold together, in a package, you would have to pay for eggs, arugula and tampons, even though you just wanted milk. ...
