Can't download and surf at the same time.

I recently upgraded my internet to the ultimate plan. while on the preferred plan, I was able to stream Netflix to 3 devices at the same time and still surf the web and download.  Now, after upgrading and switching to the new gateway modem/wireless router, I cannot run Netflix on more than 2 devices at a time without getting loading errors.  If I am downloading a large file, such as an album or a movie.  my connection seems to dedicate itself to the download, and any streaming I am doing will stop, and I cannot even browse a webpage.  I am paying 3 times more, expecting super fast speeds and unlimited ability to work all my devices at will, and I am left with a quite unsatisfactory taste in my mouth.

With ultimate I planned for my family to be able to use their tablets, smartphones, game systems, and computers when they want instead of having to take turns with the limited bandwidth.  Is it unreasonable to ask for that at 100 bucks a month for internet?

I have found the same basic problem with my connection as well. If I attempt to download say 2 files at the same time. Then try to access the internet for some casual surfing. It takes forever to make that connection. If I stop the downloads I can surf again. There is a bottleneck someplace. It is obvious to me.

I found that this problem isn't as bad when I download over a wireless connection.  are you connecting via wireless or ether-net when you try to download.  I am still having the same problem  just not as bad.    I did some speed tests over the net and on the cox site.   on other sites it shows my speed as being 16-20 mbps downstream and 7-10 upstream.   but on the cox site. it shows 25 -30 down and 7-10 up my upstream seems ok, but my downstream should be twice as much.
