Can I install a 2nd cable modem?
I subscribe to Cox for internet access and use therefore use a cable modem. I have a room in the back of my property that also has cable access. WiFi is difficult to transmit to that area and rather than trying to extend my WiFi network, I would like to imply add a 2nd cable modem to that room. Is there any technical (or contractual) restrictions to doing this?

To have service on a second modem it would require a second internet service on the account with its own tier of service, with only one occurrence of internet at the residence only one modem would be active and get a Ip address at a time. It may be more effective to run a Ethernet/Cat5 cable between locations or try using a wireless repeater closer to the location you are trying to connect to boost the signal there.

I would suggest you look into MoCA. It is ethernet over coax.
