Caller ID

When we first signed up for Contour we had caller ID but we lost it somewhere along the way and now we are trying to access it again. I've read previous posts and replies and we have tried turning it off and on again with no luck. Do we need to call for service or is there something else we can do?

Hi Carol,

We can investigate this issue for you and see what's going on.  Please send us an email with your account information - name, address, 4 digit PIN listed on the account.  Send to cox.help@cox.com so we can look into this for you.  Thanks!

Are you referring to caller ID on your TV screen?  If not, I'll assume you didn't downgrade your digital telephone service to the Starter package.  All other packages (Essential & Premier) include the caller ID service.  Starter does not.

Caller ID on TV depends on the Cox-supplied components in your home:  telephone modem and the Contour box.  I don't know what a technician could do besides rebooting these components.

 - Reboot your Contour box and test.
 - Reset your telephone modem and test.

How to Reset Telephone Modem
 - First, check for loose connections
 - Locate the small 'Reset' button on the back of the telephone modem.  It is a small hole that a pen tip or paperclip could fit into.
 - Press the 'Reset' button once and release immediately.  All the lights on the front should go off and slowly begin to load back up.
 - When the 'TEL 1' and 'TEL 2' lights stop blinking, the telephone modem is fully reset.

If rebooting and resetting didn't restore the service, I'd exchange a component at a Cox Service Center.  Which one?  I'd use your telephone to troubleshoot.  Is your telephone displaying the caller ID information?  If so, I'd exchange the Contour box.  If not, I'd exchange the telephone modem.
