Cable Box needs rebooting often
Have a Scientific-Atalanta 8240HDC in Phoenix. Quite often the last month the box shows the number 7 and not the time the first thing in the morning and the remote doesn't activate anything. I unplug for a minute to reboot it and that usually corrects it. This morning after I rebooted it --3:0-- was shown and again the remote did nothing. I rebooted once again and after a couple minutes the time was shown but could not activate any channels with the response "No Data". I checked another TV not on a cable box which worked fine and for some reason that activated the cable box and the channels. However, the guide had "No Data" on every channel. After about 10 minutes the data finally appeared and everything is working once again. The programs I had recorded were still available. If there are suggestions, fine if not I will call the technician.

It sounds like either the box is failing or there is some kind of a signal issue. You can exchange the box at a local service center if you like or it may be better to schedule a technician to come troubleshoot further. If you go with the technician he/she will be able to investigate any signal issue as well as a box failure.

Thank you for your reply. This morning it worked fine even though the box had the number 7 on it again rather than the time. If it continues to bother I'll call a tech and have it checked.

I see nothing has changed regarding glitch prone, error prone cable company-supplied boxes. I made the switch to a Tivo Premiere DVR and never looked back. Much more reliable and so much more advanced with seemless connection to netflix, youtube, youtube on demand, amazon on demand, and pandora. The only thing I don't have is Cox on demand but I don't miss it. Plus I'm saving $15 a month on box rentals. Only took 10 minutes to pick up a CableCard from the Cox store. I could have called to order it. Only took 15 minutes to install with the free SDV box they also give you which decodes certain digital channels. I've also connected a Western Digital Dvr Expander external hard drive. I suggest you all make the switich!
