So lately, since school has ended, I have been staying up late and starting yesterday night, I seem to be incuring bursts of packet loss at night. It starts around 8ish 9ish at night and I really don't know when it stops. I woke up at 11:00 today and the issue was resolved. But alas tonight it was back at it. pingtest.net doesn't show any packet loss, but there is a test that is located here: http://netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/ and here are the results: http://n1.netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/summary/id=369839a0-1631-fa163b10-fab2-48d9-9aed#latency
Whats this affecting?
My game, I play a MOBA named League of Legends, and randomly in fights I my champion would continue to do what I have told it to do before the lag spike, and I can see everyone moving live, the only thing I can't do is input commands. Its like a burst of upload packet loss. It's really annoying and the only response I got from calling cox was "Hey man, if it isn't fixed by the morning, I guess it's time to find a new game".
Here is the network logs parsed into a graph from the game. http://logsoflag.com/#YEYavpgkVEq
My friends have also noted that my voice cuts out in skype when the packet loss occurs, but there voices are still clear.
What have I tried?
Disabled the wifi on the modem in case it was someone watching netflix or something.
Restarted modem/router/wifi box all-in-one MULTIPLE times.
Checked the wire all the way to the wall.
Tried multiple computers.
Others with cox in the area not experiencing (within 10 miles of me).
This issue appears to only occur at night, I surely hope this problem can be resolved and I won't be ignored :(
Pinging 8.8.8.8 for 4 minutes
Now Pingtest is showing packet loss:
And now its not.. I don't understand whats going on
Even when I am getting an A from Pingtest, I am still getting dropped packets in-game.
And here it is at 2:00AM with minimum packet loss. Its so random... Ugh :( http://logsoflag.com/#fV2fqFwFGeA
4:00AM here are game logs: http://logsoflag.com/#Jm0ow9OQB7j
I can't reliably play my game anymore, idk if I am going to have packet loss or not.

Signal levels looks similar. Even looks a bit lower when the problem isn't happening. Can you post a tracert or pathping to show where the latency is? See here for more info. Looks like their forum has a lot of posts on a known lag problem. Try asking there in case it's a issue with their servers.
Also, if your a serious gamer, I would suggest moving away from a gateway. Your mouse probably cost more. :-)

Thanks for your help. Here is the tracert to the gameservers, But I must note that the issue also occurs in skype when the packet loss spike? would occur. I don't know the technical term for it.
Tracing route to 192.64.170.1 over a maximum of 30 hops
1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1
2 8 ms 6 ms 7 ms 10.30.80.1
3 8 ms 7 ms 8 ms 184.189.159.118
4 12 ms 11 ms 11 ms ip24-249-36-20.br.br.cox.net [24.249.36.20]
5 39 ms 42 ms 38 ms maribprj01-ae1.0.rd.at.cox.net [68.1.0.41]
6 39 ms 37 ms 47 ms ip70-167-150-222.at.at.cox.net [70.167.150.222]

10 51 ms 62 ms 52 ms 104.160.131.46
11 52 ms 52 ms 57 ms 104.160.131.101
12 * 64 ms 53 ms 192.64.170.1
Trace complete.
Do you think this is an issue with the router/modem? If it is, can you link me to any good cheap modems/routers. On a huge budget, and my mouse cost 99$ but i'd like a modem for wayy cheaper.

Also ping is really low when these spikes happen. Ussually the same, the only thing that occurs in-game is my character will not except any inputed commands while this spike it occuring, but I can see everyone else moving.

Is that when the problem is happening? If not, can you post one from then?
Don't know yet, but gateways and gaming doesn't go well together in general IMO. However, if your on a budget, I don't know of anything better for less then 100$. Just keep in mind your running a lot of fast traffic over something made in china for 10$ so don't expect the moon.

Is the tracert from a time frame when you were having the problem?

Oh, no, it is from just now. Would you like me to run it tonight when the issues are happening. I must also note that its not constant packet loss, like pingtest.net won't pick it up mostly. Should I download pingplotter and let it run tonight as well? Also it's not temperature change because the weather in Louisiana is the same in day as night. (A bit cooler at night)

Also, should I just run pingplotter all day, and then when the packet loss starts to occur, I can get a time for when it starts? I hate having to do all this stuff, and I just keep getting told the same things by cox support "we sent 'signals to the router, that should fix it' when in reality it doesn't. Its hard to say call a technician when the problem only occurs at night.

Try pathping. That will tell you of packet loss or latency over a longer period of time.
Your in LA? Have you noticed if the problem been occurring since the upgrade a couple months ago?

The issue has started two nights ago.
The server upgrade from Riot Games?
My connection has been flawless from the server upgrade.
Oh and another note, I do live in an apartment complex. If that changes anything.

Will try pathping when the issue occurs tonight. Once I have all this data collected, do I show it to a cox representative? Would a technician even come down, even though the issue doesn;t happen in the day time?

Depends on what the data shows. If the problem is somewhere between the modem/gateway and Cox, then yes. The fact it effects VOIP too tells me it's not JUST a RIOT issue. Does it effect any other Cox services? TV?

I don't know about TV or Phone, I don't use these things at night. Also I am getting a 100% lost on the 4th hop to google from the address 2001:578:1a00:9::2
But ping plotter is showing no packet loss pinging google, and 70% pinging riot games server (but only because the last hop is denying packets, every hop before it is zero packet loss)
I am curious to watch ping plotter for what time the packets start to drop. My days/nights are mixed so i've only been up at 11pm to 4am so I'd like to see if the issue is starting at 5pm 6pm 7pm etc etc. If its around 5 maybe I can schedule an appointment at that time so they can come see fro themselves.
