I use COX internet but stopped using my COX e-mail address. I notified everybody long ago. What arrives now is either spam or institutions disobeying me. Some of them have aggressive marketing departments.
I want to know if I can make the COX e-mail systems automatically bounce back to sender everything that comes into my box, except what it detects as spam, which it can toss. I would like people who still try to use my old e-mail to see that it's invalid. I may have missed a few acquaintances, for example, who may someday try to reach me on it.
Does COX use "procmail," and if so, where would I put my special rules, and what would they be? I think they must be quite simple for my case.
Also, please add SSL/TLS support to this forums sign-in.
Thank you.
Chuck

There isn't anything on the server end that can handle your messages like this however you may be able to setup an email client with some rules to perform a similar function.

OK, thanks Chris.
Perhaps deleting my e-mail account would accomplish the same purpose. I already set COX support e-mail to go elsewhere. So I don't need the COX e-mail to talk to COX.
Can COX simply delete my COX e-mail account without changing my user ID? Where would I file the request?
Thank you.

If you don't need it anymore, why not just stop using it? Also, would a vacation message work?

Well, I have stopped, which is why I want to bounce incoming mail. Over time the box will choke on accumulated mail, unless it bounces away or the address is deleted. I do not want to log in just to clean up the mess.
And as I say some people still sending mail there don't know I've stopped. A bounce-back would tell them. Sometimes the box gets mail from people I forgot had the address at all.
I suppose a vacation message may work, if one may customize it.
What a basic thing to be so hard. People change e-mail all the time. Guess I will live with whatever constraints I must. Your advice is appreciated.
Thank you.
