"An operation on the server timed out."
When trying to send/retrieve mail I'm seeing this message, whether in my Mail client or in Outlook 2011 on my Mac laptop (OS10.9):
"An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much network traffic."
What's really going on? I've confirmed my settings are correct, per provider/vendor.

Usually this is a port issue. What settings are you using for your mail client and are you at home (Cox network) or away (not on Cox network).
