ALERT: COX E-MAIL HACKING ATTEMPTS

On Feb 5, I logged in and received the system error message that I was locked out due to 5 unsuccessful attempts (which I had not made).  The Cox error message informs the user that the account is frozen and to re-attempt in 30 minutes.  I attempted all afternoon and evening to no avail.  This activity occurred again on the morning of Feb 6.  Obviously someone or machine is attempting to get into Cox e-mail.  I called the Help Desk to learn there is nothing to do but change my password.  I did and got into my email initially; however, shortly after we hung up and I closed my e-mail, the messages occurred again when I attempted to reopen my e-mail. I attempted to log in this morning and received the same message.

There is either a Cox e-mail gliche that is affecting others as well or attempts are being made by an unwelcome third party to hack my e-mail account and probably others. Since I received no help (or concern) from the Help Desk, I called an IT professional and was advised to "forward and delete" my cox mail to my gmail account, which I have done.

I remain concerned, however, for the Cox e-mail system as a whole.  As learned from recent Target and Nieman Marcus events, any known attempted security and privacy breach should not be ignored by the system administrators.

Therefore, COX technical staff, please pay attention to this very frustrating and threatening activity on YOUR e-mail system.

Thank you.

Is it actually locking you out, or just SAYING its locking you out? Try deleting your temporary files and cookies. Sometimes your browser will remember, or "cache" a website as it was the last time you were on it. If that last time showed a lockout error, it will sometimes keep showing you the error even if your not locked out. I have seen this with the account idle lockouts and too many invalid password attempts too.

Also, try signing in at "https://ww2.cox.com/resaccount/sign-in.cox". I am not making it a link on purpose since security is a issue.

Also, if there is any doubt, even if the above fixes the problem, I suggest changing your password, but do it from a different computer or cell phone or something, just incase that PC is infected with something.

I'm having the same issue.  Mine was hacked yesterday and I immediately changed my password.  But more times than not when I've tried to log in last night and this morning I receive an error message that informs me that my account is frozen and to re-attempt in 30 minutes. This has happened when trying to log in from 3 different computers.  I'm assuming the same person who hacked me initially set up a bot that is attempting to hack me again repeatedly using my old password.

Is there a way to block this bot from doing this or do I have to change my email address?

Thank you

Do you happen to have a yahoo account? And was the password the same for both your yahoo account and Cox account?

If so, that may explain the sudden influx. Seems Yahoo got hacked and alot of security info was stolen. Its common practice for hackers to try different domains with the same password, since they know some people use the same password for everything. The moderator probably already fixed the issue, but just throwing it out there for FYI.
