For about 3 months, I would lose upstream channel 2 through 4 at about 2am like clockwork. Service would crawl with only one channel. 2-4 would bond around 5-6am and everything would be back to normal.
Now I'm losing my upload speed completely but all four are still synced. A quick tracert to google shows the problem not on my end; while one to cox.net shows it's my modem. Upload speed tests will barely hit .04Mbps or just timeout. Seems to hit the hardest after 5pm.
It appears my area is getting upgraded from 25/5 -> 30/10 speeds but if that is the reason this is completely unacceptable service for coming up on 2 weeks now.
I have plugged the modem directly to the line coming down from the pole. It has nothing to do with my wiring or ethernet cable. Cable modem supplied by cox.

Second trace 94% lost at your router? But then the packet loss doesn't continue down the path. I am unfamilar with the data's structure. What program are you using?
Can you perform a standard Tracert with the router bypassed?

Just a traceroute that is automated: one to google.com and the other cox.net. As I stated, I connected the modem directly to the line coming from the pole. Packet loss was about the same.
I have no idea what is wrong. Download speeds are not affected. Just upload. Here is one for now while everything is working fine. It's showing my modem/router is the problem but now traceroute to google is bad while cox.net is fine now.

Weather.com
Same 68.1.10.134 and now 68.1.2.109
I can't be the only one with this problem.

No, thats not a tracert, thats a Pingpath, or something similar. Judging from window, Im assuming linux?
Eitherway, your data is showing repeated, but intermittent, packet loss of over 50% between your computer and router. Its probably random enough that sometimes when your testing, its fine, and other times, its giving the packet loss. Thats probably creating the illusion that its only to some sites. Thats why I asked you to bypass your router. You keep repeating you modem is connected direct to the wall, but thats coaxial. I mean plug the ethernet from the computer direct into the modem, bypassing the Asus router. Then try a exstended ping, from terminal
Ping -c 200 cox.net
For more info see here. By the way, what distro do you have? Im not much of a bean, but I love to learn.

For the third time, I have connected the modem directly to the line from the pole and connected directly to the laptop. The problems just move from my router to the modem. Same exact problems.
I haven't experienced the dead upstream for two days but my connection to random sites still lags severely.

No, that isn't the 3rd time you said it. Maybe thats what you THOUGHT you were saying, but thats not what you typed. Also, the data you gave showed the router in place. But what ever.
If your seeing packet loss 50% between computer and modem, and computer and router, then maybe the ethernet between modem and router?
Also, in your original post, you said your upstream channels were failing? Can you give more info on that?

I have plugged the cable modem directly into the cable that is coming down from the telephone pole outside. I then plugged ethernet directly into a laptop and ran tests. Same exact things. I have completely removed my router and inside wiring from this equation. It's the modem or cox.
I have two separate issues: the lag/slow downs and the recent completely dead upload speeds. The dead uploads were just the recent issue that caused me to post here. For the past day it has stopped, but I am still having trouble with sites lagging/slowing/etc.
What I'm using does both:

I connected the modem directly to the line outside, ran 3 foot ethernet to a laptop, and ran the same tests. The results were the same which is why I put the modem back inside if I'm getting the exact same results. That is why the router is shown on those tests.
Time frame of issues:
Three months ago-- starting at ~2am to ~6am on random days I would lose all but Channel 1 on the upstream. Internet was utterly useless. After 5-6am, all four channels worked and the connection was fine. This was confirmed through the modem diagnostics. I ignored it because it went away.
About two months ago-- the internet would start to lag heavily. I ignored that too because it wasn't every site.
Two to three weeks ago-- Upload speed dropped to next to zero. Every site took forever to load or just timed out. Online speed tests would show the upload to completely not work or only offer 0.04Mbps. Downstream was rock sold through this entire. All four upstream channels were available. Checked the connection quality with mtr and noticed the packet loss. I don't know whether I'm detecting the original problem from two months ago that I got used to or this was related to the upload speeds dieing.

If you could provide some trace route data to the hosts in question we'd be happy to take a look.
