Add me to the list of intermittent connections/no signal

I have been having a problem for a few months now of an intermittent or dropped internet signal, but have largely ignored it as every time I call support it is the same script being read to me telling me to do what I have already done (power down, boot modem, then router, then computer, bypass the router, etc).  Generally if I power off my router then back up it will resume working, but eventually it dies again.  Lately I notice that the modem lights (motorola SB5120) will cycle over and over for up to an hour before a signal is re-established. It almost always dies between 9:30 and 10:00 AM and is hit or miss until about 8:00 PM when it seems to work through the night. My modem log shows that the date is never set as it fails, don't know if that is a related issue.

I called tech support today and was told that my signal is very strong and that the problem will be with my equipment or wiring.  Last time I called I was told that the tech didn't know what else to tell me and I needed to buy a new modem and/or router in order to stop the problem.

I have no apparent splitter for the internet, line goes directly into the house up to the connection box where there is a splitter only for satellite.  The cable labeled for my den where the modem and router is at comes in the box, connects to another cable via a female to female coax adapter, then goes back out to the den.

Any suggestions?

Is it possible that the cable and satellite lines are interconnected in any way?  That could introduce noise into the lines which would explain the poor upstream signal quality I'm seeing reported by the modem.

I guess that could be a possibility Chris, I don't have any idea though.  Maybe I need a service call?  Today right at 9:00 it went out again for the last 16 minutes.

Let me ask this, Recently a new provider (Zona communications) came through the neighborhood and trenched everyones yard laying new lines for their services.  I remember seeing guys from the company out at the big box in my front yard several days in a row appearing perplexed about something.  If I remember correctly the problems I am having started about the time they came to put in the lines for their television, phone and internet service.  Could they have done something up out there?

I dont know if it will help but here is the log from my router, my modem log is only from the time it started up again. (yes I know the dates are messed up, I reset them).

I'm not seeing too much in the router log that would be of concern other than symptoms of the issue.  Getting a technician out to troubleshoot further would be a good next step, especially if you think the line to your home could have been damaged by recent work in the area.

I've also been experiencing the exact same problems as you except my loss of connection happens at many different times of the day and seems to be getting progressively worse.  I called customer service and they said there was an outage in my area and a tech was being sent out to check on it.  I had to leave for work that morning so I don't know if a tech came out to check on the outage but what I do know is that the signal losses are way more frequent since the "outage in my area".

It's very frustrating because I have a new modem (Motorola SB6121) and a new router and still  lose internet connection on a daily basis.  I also tried swapping out all old coaxial cables with new ones hoping this might resolve the problem but it didn't.

I couldn't have put it better myself.

Same problem here... only its being experienced not only by me but by my neighbors, too!  Definitely not a hardware issue.  And I know a few of them called Cox but when I told the Cox tech that he acted like I was the only one with the problem.

Where is it you're going that you're seeing the signal problems?

I am in San Diego and for a few weeks now my internet has been shutting down on some computers (MAC will still work), and sometimes all of them.  I have the SB5100, and thought of getting the newer 6580, but I think I may be wasting my money when I read these posts.  All my money-earning work is done on my PC laptop, which keeps losing internet service the most.  Called Cox tech, but same story as everyone else.  I have the Apple Airport router, but even my MAC goes down.  All the lights are on with both router and modem, and the wireless connection icons say "connected", but I get an error message with troubleshooting that the 'DNS server is down' or when I type in http://192.168.100.1, it says the device with that number is not working.   I don't know what to do at this point.  We have 3 PC laptops and one MAC, but all within a few rooms apart.  I have done all the reboot routines time and time again.  How can I get this to work on all my computers like before?

If you're trying http://192.168.100.1 and you're getting an error that suggests that there is a connection failure between the router and the modem.  You could test without the router to see if you're still getting errors.  if that is the case a service call might be a good way to troubleshoot further.
