DVR Box is so tiny
Why is my DVR BOX so tiny and made out of cheap plastic?
when it broke after 3 months of use, we had to make a 60 min round trip drive to get a new one. When we hooked it up , it was broken too!!

Newer stuff probably doesn't have its traditional bulky storage device. My guess is it records to an Embedded Multimedia Card or a Flash Memory Chip.
No doubt it's plastic and cheap because service providers monopolize the cable-box. Could you imagine the competition if Google, Apple, MS, Amazon built cable-boxes?
