Cable AC Power Adapter?

Hi. I am still relatively new to Cox Cable. There is an AC power adapter plugged into one of the back bedrooms. It has cable connected to the end of the power adapter and the other end is plugged into the cable wall outlet. I have attached a link to a picture that shows what I am describing.

What exactly is that for?
