The solution to, "Can no longer send outgoing mail using COX (SMTP) internet."
COX chat support was of no help and the links they sent me did not offer a solution either. It's probably not your phone or you email client that is at fault. The fault is that COX recently changed their security settings, without notifying customers. The result is that you suddenly can no longer send outgoing email. Here is the solution that I spent 2 hours figuring out. These 8 easy steps solved the problem in Pegasus email client. Your email client windows may vary slightly, but these are the settings you need to change.
SMTP SETTINGS: The last 2 steps are the most important, since the COX agent will not tell you to do them.
In Pegasus top menu click Tools>Internet Options
1. Click the tab "Sending (SMTP)"
2. Click "Edit"
3. Server host name to smtp.west.cox.net (smtp.cox.net may also work in your area)
4. Click "Security" tab
5. Select "Via direct SSL connect" (port will change to 465)
6. Check Login to the SMTP server using the following details:
7. enter your COX Username and Password
8. Click OK, OK

Thanks for the explanation. We customers knew that something was going on (behind the scenes). You say it was changing their security settings. But how did you figure that out?

You guys are kidding, right? Type 465 into the internet forum search box and see what comes up.

I am in Rhode Island and Cox was sending email almost daily and at least one snail mail warning about the changes.
