Cox Panoramic WiFi consuming bandwidth - Anyone?

Starting 2/9 I experienced huge bandwidth spikes. >250GB per day! Since this happened twice, I disconnected all devices on 2/13 before noon and yet had 290GB consumption on that day - which was crazy for just thermostats and ring doorbell. Not knowing the reason, I disconnected the Cox provided cylindrical "panoramic" modem itself and connected Eero - because Eero provides better metrics & I can figure out which device is causing this issue. Surprisingly after connecting eero I am not seeing anything unusual, leaving me to conclude that the cylindrical "panoramic" modem that Cox provides is the real problem! Just wanted to check with community if anyone else faced issue like this?

Did you review your Panoramic network security?  You may have been hacked.  The reason it stopped could have been because the hacker couldn't access your Eero, or they had already downloaded everything they wanted.

Wouldn't hacker's device show up in the list of devices? Whether online or "last connected"??

@paakella5  I was really just asking if you had reviewed your Panoramic network security.  But devices connected to a Cox Panoramic Router may not appear on the connected devices list for various reasons. This could be due to the device not being on the same network as the router, the device not being registered with the Cox domain, or the device not being set up to connect to the router's network.  If a device isn't registered, it could have connectivity issues, but if it connects at all, a hacker will have succeeded.

A number of things can push up usage. Security cameras, device auto backups, gaming system updates/software downloads. Streaming something in 4K can use as much as 7-10 gb/hr.

ALSO!!! If you have Amazon Echo/Dot/etc devices, they can go into a loop where they try to send everything they hear to Amazon to be translated or identified, PLUS they allow other amazon devices from your neighbors to use a "little" of your data.

Don't have Amazon echo / dot stuff in house, don't have any gaming console in the house either. Everything else is connected to WiFi, so I should see the metrics by device now using Eero. Unfortunately with Parnoramic WiFi router, I didnt have visibility into consumption per device. Ever since I connected Eero I am monitoring my TV usage and its around 7GB per day or less.

However, with >200 GB per day happening 4 times in the last 5 day work-week, removing panoramic and connecting Eero bringing it down to less than 30-GB per day ever since Eero connected, leads me to conclude the panoramic WiFi was the problem device.

Now, we could have some edge-case unexplainable exotic case that could have caused the spike but why wouldn't it happen with Eero?? I even used the same SSID & password with Eero!

Appreciate your inputs though. It could be a one-off thing too that happened only during that week! Best thing to come out of it is that I now have a better WiFi router with cleaner metrics so am prepared for future - hopefully.

Do you work from home? A VPN working from home can chew through data fast!

Getting away from Pano is a good idea, the WiFi on it is sub standard to say the least. I use a Netgear RAXE300.

@paakella5

Cox Panoramic is a two-in-one combination modem and router.  Isn't Eero just a router?  If you disconnected the Panoramic, what modem are you using?

Ethernet cable coming out of Fiber ONT connected to Panoramic WiFi router. I detached that ethernet cable from Panoramic WiFi and connected to Eero. Works.

Ah, you hadn't mentioned having an ONT.
