Cox agent asking for my full SSN!

Yesterday I called to see if I could get a promotional deal renewed, and the agent requested my full SSN. I asked if I could provide only the last 4 digits or an alternative, and they said no. I later found out from contacting Cox customer service that agents should never ask for full SSN. I am trying to get an audit of our recorded phone call and that agent's recent activity and have been met with many frustrating messages like, "Feedback is how we learn, thanks for your feedback" and "rest assured we are taking appropriate action." If my SSN has been misused, that is a huge deal. I do not feel Cox is taking it seriously and am quite concerned that this agent may be doing something shady. The entire phone call was very odd, with long times on hold (with no background music like usual) and a VERY scripted and choppy answer to all my questions--that in itself isn't odd, but the lags and wording were different from what I received from the next agent I called.

Be warned! Cox is a shady company with awful customer service and is not taking security threats seriously.
