Using a Samsung remote to control a CISCO 4642HDC cable box--is this possible?

I'd like to use my Samsung TV remote control to control my Cox-provided CISCO cable box. BUt I can't locate the standard 3-digit universal remote code for CISCO, if there is one.  In the Cox-provided universal remote instructions, it says to use a special procedure (SWAP-A buttons) to program the CISCO box. Does this mean it's impossible to control the box with my Samsung remote?

(I have called support lines at Cox and Samsung so far, and the CISCO site just points back to "your cable provider" (i.e., Cox) for support, so . . . No one seemed familliar with the issue.)

Thanks,

Martin Smith

Allan--thanks. No serial no. on the remote that I can see. Just came with the Samsung TV. Model FP-T6374.The Samsung remote doesn't have a SWAP function as mentioned in the Cox report instructions.

PS--FYI--I replied to your answer via e-mail when I got it, but I got a non-delivery notice yesterday and today so I'm posting here.

Thanks,

Martin

PPS--Also thanks to Domino for the reply.

Hi Martin, here is the number for tech support with Samsung: 1 (800) 726-7864  have your cable box brand name and model number information handy when you call. Are you using an IR extender?

Michaelj-- Thanks, but been there, done that.

And CISCO (also been there) just points me back to "my provider", i.e., Cox.

The issue seems to be that the CISCO box doesn't use the standard 3-digit universal remote codes.  The Cox-supplied remote says to use a "SWAP-A" combination on the remote to program the CISCO box, but there's no SWAP button on the Samsung remote.

At this point I am trying to confirm that there is not, in fact, a 3-digit code for the CISCO. (Why, I wonder??)

Then my fall-back is to use the Cox/CISCO remote for all devices (cable box, TV, Blu-Ray, etc.), but of course at the cost of some of the Samsung's functionality.

Thanks for any help or advice,

Martin.

Michaelj--

Been there (to Samsung Support) and done that. No help. Also not help at CISCO, who point back to Cox.

Question is: does the CISCO box have a 3-digit universal remote code?

The Samsung remote does NOT have a "SWAP" key, which is what the Cosx remote instructions say is needed to program the CISCO.

Thanks,

Martin

Cisco purchased Scientific Atlanta (SA) and their products. Does SA have a code?

IIRC, the "SWAP" key is just used to switch the remote between Cisco (SA) and Motorola STBs.

Domino--thanks for the response, and that's interesting but doesn't seem to provide a solution AFAICT.

PS--The Forum site here seems really slow--like minutes between when I post. Or maybe it's hung up. Anyhow, FYI.

Using Firefox.
