I've never quite seen erratic behavior like this.
I set a hockey game to record. The game started at 7:00, and I set it to record for six hours (it's the playoffs!). At 10:30 or so, I started watching the hockey game from the beginning. As I watch, I fast-forward through commercials, intermissions, etc. I noticed early in the recording that when I hit FF, the video would start to FF, but the progress bar would not appear on the screen. Then fast-forwarding and rewinding essentially became unresponsive. While watching, if I hit FF (once), the video would start to FF, but the progress bar would not appear. If I hit play, it does nothing -- the box continues to FF. Literally 10-15 minutes of real-time video would go by on FF before finally, the video would stop fast-forwarding. And here's the best part: While this runaway FF behavior was happening, if you turn off the Contour box while it is uncontrollably fast-forwarding, it will shut off. But when you turn the box back on, it will return to the same still fast-forwarding video!! This happens in the rewind direction as well.
Obviously, turning the box off and on does not remedy this behavior. Unplugging the box and plugging it back in also did not remedy this behavior. However, if I watch another recording (The Nightly Show), FF and RW behavior is perfectly normal.
If, while watching the recording, I hit STOP, and I select "Stop and Save," the box does not stop recording. As far as I can tell, there's no actual way to end the recording process for this hockey game.
Needless to say, having a hockey game involuntarily fast-forwarded is a fantastic way to ruin it.

Update: I waited until the recording stopped on its own (at 1 AM). When I then watch the recording, FF and RW behavior is normal. So, this was uncontrollable FF and RW behavior that occurred only while watching the recording while it was continuing to record.
Tomorrow, I'll make sure that I record in three-hour chunks, rather than six hours in one single recording.

Sure there is:
DVR List -> Scheduled Recordings. Highlight running recording. [A recording will remain in "Scheduled Recordings" until completed.] "SELect highlighted program -> Cancel This Recording -> "Blue B" (yes.)
DONE!
