Next time it happens, press Fast Forward and a error message should come up. Off the top of my head I would say bad signal on the upstream. Do you also sometimes have problems with the guide?
no the guide works fine. The message repeatedly is Your movie cannot be accessed right now, please try again later. They just reset again and now it tells me to "check back periodically for exciting Video on Demand

Yes, when it says that press Fast Forward, screen should change and give a error like I-4001. It worked with EOD on my Motorola box, but I think the EOD platform should be the same boxes.
Also, what kind of cable receiver do you have? If interested I could tell you how to get into the diagnostics to see if it is a upstream(OOB) problem. Of Course Cox would be able to see that too with their special tools.
