How easy/difficult is it to switch from Broadband Cable Modem to a Wireless Broadband Router?
What hardware and additional items (cables) are needed, if any?
Other than the cost of a router (one was gifted to me) are there setup/monthly charge changes?

You can't switch from a modem to a router. The modem is what connects you to Cox. Do you mean adding a wireless router to your modem? What model? What are you trying to connect to it? There are no charges unless you want to pay Cox for them to come out and install it. Have you ever installed a router or computer equipment before?
