Subscribing to a "Core Channel"/Fox Business Network (Ch. 1313)

Referring to the Cox HD channel line-up, there is the phrase "requires subscription to the corresponding

core channel". What is a "Core channel"?

We usually subscribe by tiers or channel packages, not individual channels, because this is the only

choice we have.

Case in point: I receive Fox News and Fox Sports, and until this week, I was also receiving Fox Business

on channel 1313 - but no more! Instead, I get an on-screen message to "Subscribe" by calling 383-4000.

When I contact customer service, I am told that I have to buy a "SPORTS package" in order to view FBN.

(FBN does not stand for Foot Ball Network)

Why do I suddenly have to subscribe to a sports package in order to watch a BUSINESS CHANNEL???

A "core" channel could be the SD version of a channel (like Fox Business News) or the main channel of a premium service (like HBO.) Fox Business News is part of the "Sports & Info Pak." [The "Info" is short for Information.]

BUT...Fox Business News also is listed under "HD Channels" where it states that

"Requires a subscription to the corresponding core channel", which I do, and until this

week, I was able to receive FBN on Channel 1313.

Now, all I'm getting is a "subscribe" message.

If FBN is part of the Sport and Information package, and you don't have that, then you don't get FBN HD because you don't get FBN. Maybe there was a channel change? Or it could have been a technical error. But to put simply, no Sport & Info = No FBN SD or FBN HD. I think maybe your looking for a loop hole, but it doesn't work that way. Sorry

None of my questions have been answered. How can Fox Business Network be considered a "sports offering"?

Why have I been able to receive it until this week - but now it's a subscription channel?

As a 30-plus year cable subscriber, I am amazed at the runaround I'm getting from Cox on this issue.

It's a matter of principle at this point. If it is just a "technical error" as you suggest, then Cox should "man-up"

and fix the problem.

I'm not "looking for a loop hole". I'm looking for good customer service and value. And I don't appreciate channels

disappearing from my line-up without adequate reason being given.

It isn't. As Domino said, its part of the Information part of the Sports and Information package. I don't see why this is hard to understand.

Im amazed this wasn't considered answered by first post. I just think you don't like the answer.

How would they do this? There isn't a button Cox can press just to give you the channel. They would have to move the channel to a new package, would means possibly re-negotiating with Fox. The best I can suggest is to ask Cox to put in a Channel request form requesting that it be moved.

Define good customer service? I asked where you are so I could look up to see if any channels have been changed. If not, then it must have been a technical glitch. What other answer would be? Either you were getting the channel, and something changed in the line up, or you weren't supposed to get it, and something technically happened to fix the issue.

Yea, im done with this thread. Moving on!

Hi SSXfile,

Do you subscribe to the Sports & Info Pak? Cox performs periodic video channel authorization audits to ensure customers receive all channels within the packages in which they subscribe.

It sounds like you may have been receiving Fox Business News (FBN) without subscribing to the Sports & Info Pak, and a channel audit caught the error and realigned your viewable channels per your subscriptions.

The placement of programming channels such as FBN is dictated by the terms of our agreements with those programmers. Along with sports channels, the Sports & Info Pak also contains channels like Bloomberg Television, a 24-hour live business & financial channel; BIO (Biography), the source for true stories about notable people; H2, a channel that airs historical and popular science documentaries; and The Weather Channel's Weatherscan.

I'm sorry that it felt like you received the run-around from our support representatives, and I'm glad you posted to Cox Forums. If you have other questions we can answer, please let us know.

Yes, one reply and she's moving on.

Three people have replied to this thread, and so far the only answers I received have

included those cute little "emoticons" and vague explanations as to why I'm no longer allowed

to watch Fox Business News. "It's an "INFO" channel" I'm told - - -so why can I still get CNBC

(NBC's Business Channel? Shouldn't it also be part of the "Info" package?

This is beginning to smack of Liberal bias against Fox.

No, there is only the button they can press to take the channel away.

Because CNBC is part of either your basic or expanded basic lineup.  Not a separate digital tier.
