Stations having problems

Over the last few months we have been having almost on a daily basis many stations are pixelating or froze and in plain English NOT watchable. When I asked about this I was told it was sun spots playing havoc on the satellites. That's all well and good BUT I think when this occurs COX should discount TV fees seeing a vast majority of the channels are not watchable and it happens at various times of the day. We have had issues early morning, afternoons and evening and even after midnight. Why should we pay FULL price for a service that works part time? In these days were we want more bang for our buck and expect FULL service for what we pay for it isn't fair that we pay full price for this service. We have neighbors who are on DISH and DIRECTV and seeing they are working off satellites they aren't even experiencing the amount of issues COX has. Why is this? I thought every provider basically works off the same satellites yet their service is not having these issues daily like COX.

I've had similar problems, and I'm considering a move to one of the dish providers. Perhaps the threat of a mass exodus will wake up Cox to provide better service or cheaper rates.

Sun outages affect the satellites of the Networks and any other provider. They typically last 5-15 minutes a day and can continue for up to 4 days. There is a Spring Outage in March/April and a Fall Outage in September/October. I'm not seeing that we are in a Sun Outage at this time. The picture breaking up is called tiling and is also caused by a loss of signal. There are a few things to check to make sure there isn't something else going on. Was this a recent problem? Are you having this problem on all channels or just certain ones? Is this on all TVs? Are you connected straight from the wall to the TV or is there a receiver?

Stephanie its not us! It started around June and some days are worse than others. You may not have an issue in San Diego but in Las Vegas NV it is happening. It happens on all our TV's and we have no receiver. It varies on channels. The other day we were on channel 19 it started "tiling" then flipped to a totally different channel briefly then back again with the tiling for a bit. It happens on channel 5 all the way to 58 and yet the channels next to the affected channels are not having issues. We go through this almost every summer and we have lived in different parts of this city so its not just one area having this.

If you are having "tiling" problems on analog channels, the problem is with the signal sent to Cox, or early at Cox's headend. I, for one, would be interested in knowing if these problems occur if a cable box is used.

It is 1:43 PM and channel 19 is "tiling" on and off. We have storms moving close to our area. I called a neighbor who has DISH-TV and had them check that channel on their setup and its fine. I know years ago (14 or so) back in Indiana we had Direct-TV and when storms moved in we would lose all signal. Over the years with equipment changes these providers have become more reliable. Now its COX having issues. We go through this every summer esp. when Monsoon season come in for this area. COX should discount ALL our TV rates during the summer seeing we cant watch TV without this "tiling" which occurs any time of the day.

Which is why I asked my question. You don't know if the problems exist with a cable box? In all of the time you've had this problem, you've never had a tech check it with a cable box? Your TV tunes to different frequencies than does a cable box, BTW.

WE DO NOT have a cable box inside. Our connection is and has been no matter where we lived in the Valley a direct connection to their line. We've had one tech out here in the past year when a line was chewed through by a mouse or something small in their main box outside and after them giving it a clean bill of health we still have issues every summer. Its not moisture because this happens even though we get no rain at all. Monsoon season doesn't mean rain all the time for all areas and most times we get the "all bark and no bite" routine here near Henderson NV with the clouds, thunder and nothing in the form of rain.

force113,

If you are having issues with signal on a television directly connected to the cable outlet we will need to schedule a technician to find the root cause. Is more than one direct to set tv affected?

When you have a moment email your account information, PIN or last 4 of Social and a reference to this thread to cox.help@cox.com. Please include your preferred day to schedule a visit and we'll check availability.

Yes, yes. I know. But the Cox tech will have one. And by checking how well those channels are received on a STB would go a long way in determining what is happening to the analog channels. But, I've already explained that to you twice, so I won't try again.

BTW, by NOT having a STB or CableCard with the Essential tier, you're paying for - but not receiving - about 2 dozen more SD channels and about 50 HD channels.
