Slow speed

New modem, new router and tech. has check my cables and are all good. Talked to tech support many times and they go through the same script every time and say it is ok.     This AM down load speed is down to 5MBS

Despite the router being new it appears it may be using older or end of life technology as how it's not establishing a gigabit link to the modem.  Can you try bypassing the router and testing your speeds again to see if that makes a difference?  Note you'll need a paper clip or some similar small pointed device to push the reset button on the modem after connecting a PC for it to work.

The WNR2000 does have it's limitations.  I'd suggest trying without and see what your speeds look like.

Thanks for your help, I can get 48 to 55 MBPS connected direct but that will go way down to less than 20 MBPS many times.

Working with laptops so hard wire is not a option at this time.

Thank You

Indeed this isn't intended by any means to be a solution but it does confirm for us that it might be time for a router upgrade.  I'd suggest looking at routers that support gigabit Ethernet connections and preferably wireless-AC if that is within your budget.
