Did everything in your "slow" download speed sticky... Super Crappy download speeds. I was getting 17-20m from Speedtest.net, using New Orleans, Hammond, Dallas.... Now I can't pass 3m downloading.... Terrible...And this is at 11:45pm.... I hate to see prime time...

In your particular case it appears you may be due for a modem upgrade.  The one your currently using is showing poor signal levels from this end and download speeds beyond 3Mbps are inconsistent.  I would suggest referring to our list of approved modems and looking at any of the DOCSIS 3.0 models which can be purchased either from us or many local electronics retailers.

Thank you for the reply. I am a little curious as to what would cause it to show a poor signal now and over the last 2 or so weeks? I was getting 17-20 before with this same modem.. Getting a new modem would not be an issue, I will look into it this weekend.  I am just wondering what might really cause the drop in performance with this modem when it has been performing well over the last few years. I game and surf a lot. Does Cox throttle their customer's lines if they see a lot of activity? (I mainly game and surf. I don't do much for p2p or downloading files - just data for games and surfing.) I usually scan all my comps weekly for spyware/viruses.

Have a good day.

Did you add/change your cable wiring? I had them replace all of my cable connectors and the put a signal booster in the system and now I get 20 - 30m download speeds - previously I was getting maybe 3m download with disconnects...

No. I haven't touched any of the cables or any other hardware installed by Cox.

Update to SLOOOOOW... Even worse since I purchased a new Cisco modem from Cox... Now I am getting a crappy 2.4 download with a 4.68 upload... Not to mention the 5 mins it takes to reconnect once disconnected.  Why are we paying for something we are not getting?

10:00pm...Still terrible download speeds.. It's like I am being throttled to no end. Normally 17-20m d/l now 3-4m d/l... I have higher u/l speeds than d/l speeds. Would it be better to try LUS?

I have been having similar problems also. Both at home and work, with the internet very slow! Why!? Tonight seems a little better but not much. I have a new modem from cox, router is only a year old. A tech was out about two weeks ago to install a new box for our phone that was going out. Is is a Cisco DPQ3212. He had a very hard time to get our internet working again. So he instlled a new router a lesser model than what we had!!?? And it could not get a wireless signal above 64Mbps. And according to Netgear can get to I belive 150Mbps. So I reconnected my router that I had (tech said it was bad) and have no problems! And untill just a few days agao the speed was fast. I know it is not my equipment, having the same slow speeds at work too.

Did Cox do some kind of maintenance early Monday(3/5/12) morning? My speed went down to 3-4Mbps about 12:30am PST, eventually could not access Internet at all, slowly started to come back about 4:30am. It is now 5:30am and running about 12Mbps. If Cox has scheduled maintenance, can you let us know ahead of time? If this was something else, I am curious what could cause this; slow down to no connection to slowly come back up to speed.

Hi there,
Quick advice for ya. Believe me or not. I am getting 50mbps down. Make sure you have Docsys 3.0 Modem and dual band N wireless and Dual band N wireless USB adapter on your laptop or any brand with N wireless adapter built in. You will be fine speed wise.

P.S. I was long term Verizon FIOS HSI customer and by switching to Cox. I don't see any difference. Same good speed. FIOS doesn't even have Docsys 3.0 modem. They still using Docsys 2.0 with G type wireless.
