Sling Box incompatible with Cox devices???
I cannot connect my Sling Box with any set top box from Cox. All worked well with Verizon, but now with new install from Cox, my SLing Box cannot locate a set top box. Not one model # or serial # is identified by SLing box.
I know that Cox does not 'support' Sling Box connectivity problems, as I've been told, but thinking this is a discussion forum to brainstorm or learn from others my quest is merely seeking out others with a similar issue. Thanks.

Sling does have a forum for help. I needed to learn which cable box on the list that would work with my Contour 2 box.
I ended up choosing a COMCAST box because it was the same as the COX box and it worked perfectly.
I have been using a slingbox for many years and was very frustrated when I switched to the Contour2.
No more 5 componet output for my box. Ended buying a HDMI to 5 componet converter along with a HDMI straight through
for the cable box to TV. This worked but the video on the slingbox with this adapter/converter was not quite as good
as my previous cable box that had the 5 componet ports.

Hey Ken,
I hadn't seen your second response when I responded to your first. I will try a Comcast box once I get the adaptor. Does your cable box have 2 HDMI outputs and that's how you went direct to the TV with HDMI? The adaptors I'm seeing have only the component output? Thx so much for your help!

Mike,
The adapter I found also allows the HDMI cable to go from the cable box to the adapter then out of the adapter to
the TV. This allows for cable tv to maintain the same status. The adapter has 5 componet outputs. This goes
to the slingbox, mine is the M2. Out of the M2 I use another HDMI cable to go to the TV in a different input.
My M2 also has the 5 componet cable output to go to a TV that accepts the 5 cables but I went with the HDMI.
I believe the 5 cables can only support 1080i which is not a big deal because COX doesn't support 1080P.
I looked for a long time and only found 1 adapter that had the HDMI in and out. All the rest had HDMI in with 5 cables out.
You needed to split the HDMI cable to give you the same adding one more device.
If there is a way to send you email I could pass along the model number and device of the adapter I purchased.
It cost around $69

Hi Ken
I understand your wiring now. With my previous Verizon hook up, I didn't split the HDMI cable. I had component video from the cable box out to component video in on the Slingbox and HDMI out of the Slingbox to HDMI in on the TV and that worked fine. I found an adapter without the HDMI out for <$20 which should allow me to replicate the Verizon set up I had. As long as Sling recognizes the Comcast box, I should be good to go. I'll let you know when the adapter arrives. I'll let you know when the adapter arrives.
I don't know how to get you my email address without putting it here (i'm technologically inept)!! If you do, let me know and I'm happy to share that with you. Thx for your help, I really appreciate it.

If it doesn't work out will have to figure out how to send you an email or if there is no objection I can post the link
for the adapter that has HDMI in and out along with the 5 componet cables.

If you read what Ken wrote above, it could be the lack of component video output on the Contour box. He got his to work using an HDMI / component video adapter and he got Slingbox to recognize a Comcast box in the configuration setup. I'm waiting on an adapter and will try the same setup.

http://www.slingbox.com/HDMIConverter
In addition, this is a good place to download bins for all different cable boxes.
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=19
When you go through the setup
with the Slingplayer Desktop software, if you don't see the cable box on the list its possible someone might
have created one and put it on this page. Its just a matter of downloading it and in the slingplayer desktop software
select CUSTOM and you can find your file.

Hi Ken
Thanks for your posts....question on the HDMI Component adapter: does the USB power cable come with a wall outlet? Assuming it doesn't, are you powering the adaptor via USB from your cable box?
Also thanks for the post to the Slingox forum. I will check it out to see if my Cox box is there.

Unfortunately it doesn't . For the price you would think it would but it doesn't.
My cable box has a USB port so I am getting power for the HDMI converter from the USB port on my
cable box.

I've looked everywhere for a converter with an HDMI out and the your link via Slingbox is the only one I can find. Hard to believe but I guess that's why they can charge $69.99 for it!!

I feel your pain... I couldn't find anything else too.. I could have made one up with 2 adapters but when you add the cost of the 2 for a little
more you end up with what I did and so far its been working since the Spring of this year without a glitch.
The slingbox as you know works well but once COX lets us watch ALL of our programing via a FireTV/Roku in and out of the home that changes
the game. In my opinion, the only downside for them is we won't have to pay that insulting cable box fee since you can't watch without a box anyways. By the way, I have read users in other parts of the Country are doing this now on their FireTV. There is always
a way around things. Would be happy to discuss if there was a way to do Private messaging.

I guess I'm going to bite the bullet and order the converter. My Cox box has composite video outputs so I connected those to the composite inupts on the Slingbox. It's working with a Comcast remote but the picture is not very good, somewhat distorted. Hopefully the component inputs will solve that. Thanks so much for your help
