Time Warner Cable strikes out on Dodgers deals
By Media Life Magazine Staff - Mar. 22, 2015

Other Los Angeles-area pay TV providers just aren’t buying Time Warner Cable’s pitch for SportsNet LA.

The cable network, which carries Los Angeles Dodgers games locally, remains off the air in nearly three quarters of the LA market with opening day two weeks away.

TWC and cable and satellite companies are fighting over pricing, according to The New York Post.

TWC has been in talks with DirecTV, AT&T’s U-verse, Charter Communications, Cox Communications and Verizon FiOS, but no deals have been reached.

Last year, TWC signed a huge contract to secure rights to Dodger games, with $8.35 billion to be paid out over the next quarter century, the biggest deal ever for one team’s rights.

But that puts TWC in a pinch.

It needs the carriage fees from local cable providers to help pay for that contract, and it’s setting the price higher than they would prefer, a reported $5 per subscriber.

I would like to go on record that I think Cox should NOT cave in and pay. Then were would it end? Every network is going to ask for more and more money. Give a mouse a cookie....
