Premier customer here. I lean more towards the power user side of the scale, nothing extreme. (Port Forwarding, Managing my own DHCP nonsense, hosting VOIP etc.) I currently have the CG-3000D-RG and i've had it for over a year now, as far as Modem/Router combo's go its fine, however its boot time is horrible, changing most settings that I tend to change usually results in it going through a lengthy reboot. It does not have a plethora of settings just non-combo's do, its interface feels like something out of the XP era. As of recently it decided to forget all of its settings while I was updating my DHCP reservations and took its time redownloading the configuration file and taking ***-near forever regaining its internet connection while I re-entered all my ports/wireless settings/etc. I figure its time to upgrade.
There's only ever going to be 1 or 2 Wireless connections at a time, one being my S5 and one being a friends computer if he comes over to do some LAN gaming. So Wireless isnt a huge priority for me. The router is sitting right next to me and the most distance it'd ever need to reach is all of 15-20 feet to the other side of the room.
Max of 2-3 Wired Connections. Something that handles Port Forwarding fine (And doesnt require me to delete a whole entry just to edit it..), Preferably that doesnt take forever to reboot. And doesn't go cross-eyed when I try to feed bridged windows connections through it (Never works with the CG3000D, even when forcing static IP's on all the devices). I'm comfortable with 3rd Party Firmware like DD-WRT.
Since I want to move away from a combo. What would be the best Modem Cox would be able to provide to me if they were able to send out a tech or if I went to a local Cox store to pick one up. I tend to make full use out my download rate (Downloads, Streaming, Games, Lots of multi-tasking), and as much of my upload as I can (Twitch.tv Streaming, Youtube Uploads, TeamSpeak Server hosting, Games, file transfers). The CG3000D takes its time during speed tests, hovering around a quarter to half of my bandwidth and about halfway through the tests it tends to pick up and reach my advertised speeds, i'd like something that is OK with utilizing as much bandwidth as it can as fast/earliest it can, Cause sometimes I feel like the 3000D has the momentum of a electric power wheel's jeep.
Suggestions? I was planning on Upgrading to Ultimate, but the jump from what I already have to it doesn't feel worthwhile (I usually reach 125mbps+ down and 70up, im like the only person on my Node, which is in my lot anyway out front), i'd rather wait until GigaBit hits my area (Which it never will, fingers crossed though. Rural Arizona, Surprise 85379, no plans to move here I heard). And unless Google Fiber expands out of Phoenix when it comes here, I doubt i'll see that either.
TL;DR:
Good Router & Modem for Mild Power-User who hosts some stuff. Guess I want a Modem with good Reponse/rate that doesnt feel like a Honda taking forever to reach Vtec. Router with as many features as I can get, wireless isnt a priority, wired performance is.

My default suggestion is the Motorola SB6141 and Asus RT-N66U/R.
Also check out Newegg.com for customer reviews and smallnetbuilder for tech reviews and break downs.
