First thing I would get is a HDMI extender so you can get the Roku out of the way of the TV. Some TVs give off interference, or the shielding in the TV to stop the interference can block the Wifi signal. Also make sure a laptop can connect to the same network in the same location.
Second, what model numbers items do you have. The Valet series covers a large selection of routers. Do you mean the M10? If so, and if you have all Wifi N devices, try changing the Network Mode to N only. See page 20 of manual. And is it the Roku 3500R Streaming Stick?
Last, what step does it fail during set up? Connecting to the network or connecting to the internet? If the later, try switching your WAN DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

Thank you for replying. I have a Cisco Valet and a Roku HDMI stick.
Since my original post I have tried to no avail:
1. Disabling the router firewall. Now re-enabled.
2. Changing the channel to 11 from auto. Now back to auto.
