My TV remote control can change the channels on the new cable box, but will not pull up the Guide.

1. What happens when you go to channel 1? On demand menu?
2. What happens when you press the guide button the box?
3. What kind of box do you have? Should have a model number on the front. And new as in they upgraded you? Did a swap?
4. What kind of remote? See here for the different types.

Which "cable box"? Which remote?

All good questions, but this could be very simple.
When you hit the "guide" button, does the "cable" button/light at the top blink? If not, press the "cable" button and try the guide button again.
Kind of a weird thing about the 7820 and 8820, if you've hit the "TV," "DVD," or "AUX" buttons for any reason, you may need to hit the "cable" button again before some of the cable box functions will work again. The channel buttons default to the box unless you change the "channel control lock" but some of the other buttons have functions in multiple modes.
