Purchased, installed, & activated a new DOCSIS 3.0 modem

We went from a Motorola SB series DOCSIS 2.0 modem to a 3.0 ready SB6121 earlier today.
About how long does it take for the updated speeds to start working their way to us?

Yeah, when I got home yesterday I checked the direct line to the modem again, and the speeds are now pushing the 15Mbit.
So it's pretty much resolved itself.
I just have to reconfig the router settings since that's decided to disagree with being unplugged for five minutes.

(Would have gotten back to this sooner, but I can't seem to stay signed into the forum from my phone, even on 'desktop' mode)

For Linksys owners that have this issue, DISABLE 'Media Prioritization'. For some stupid reason, that bogs down the entire setup to a crawl.  Found some clues on thread "5029.aspx" that did indeed help.

Same here going from a 2.0 DOCSIS SB to a SB6183 using Preferred activated via a self-activation.  The self-activation worked great I have to say.  I get consistent 29-32Mbps download and 6-7 Mbps upload testing using a laptop connected directly to the modem.  I opened a support email to ask why I shouldn't see something closer to 50Mbps download but I got a very generic form answer which completely ignored the way I had tested the connection and implied I should look at my wireless router.

Yeah, I've already reboot the router, power cycled the modem a few times. At most, I've seen 0.51 increase that lasted one SpeedTest.

So, 5.55 Mbps, when it should be 15.

It could be a problem with the way you're account is setup or you could be getting held back by a wireless-G router if you're still using one.  Email us at cox.help@cox.com with your account info and we can check things on our end for you.

FYI only the Preferred and higher speed tiers will see see a speed increase by upgrading to a DOCSIS 3.0 modems.  Even on the lower tiers however the speeds should become more consistent.  Can you try testing without the router and see if there is any change in speeds?

The phone support technician noticed my new modem was still configured as a DOCSIS 2.0.  She did a update and reset and now I'm getting 61Mbps download and 6Mbps upload which is completely in line with Preferred speeds.  Problem resolved.

Glad to hear it was a simple fix.  Let us know if we can help with anything else.
