Problems with WiFi
I have a two band wireless router, a netgear gateway with a 2.4 g and 5 g network. Recently the 5 g network has lost signal strength while the 2.4 g signal remains strong. The router has never been moved since installation. Other than unplugging the box what other diagnostics can I do?
I used the 5 g wireless for my desktop pc and the 2.4 g for others in the family, because the strength is so low the internet does not work on that net work. I have moved the PC to the 2.4g wireless network.
Are there any recommended use differences between the 5 and 2.4 g networks, is the 5 g supposed to be faster than the 2.4 g or just a larger bandwidth?

What is the model number for the router? 5Ghz is generally better for closer devices that need larger bandwidth, like streaming media from PC to TV. 2.4Ghz is slower but more robust to both interference and signal range. think of it like a graph curve. 5Ghz signal strength falls more drastically then 2.4 as distance increases.

Sorry for the late reply, I was sending responses through my Email system and just found out they were not getting through.
the model is a netgear gateway cg4500bd,
I did go online and download the user manual, I wanted to get back to factory defaults so found the reset button, reset the modem/wireless and now it is back to working properly. I have tried unplugging the unit several times, but no improvement. This seems to have been the trick, now I don't know what happened, but it is working like when it was intalled.
