About a third of the time when I try to watch something via OnDemand, I get "we are experiencing technical difficulties". Today the error code is 7.1.8106. Happens way too often. I have the whole house DVR and use Cox Middle Ga.
Why can't Cox get OnDemand working reliably?

You shouldn't be having this problem. Are you getting this message on both TVs? Can you tell me what folders and titles you are try and at what point in the attempt do you get the message?

It is occurring on both TV's. It happens at the point of trying to watch a selectionthat I have searched for. I locate the title and press " Watch Now" and then I get "we are experiencing technical difficulty" It happened most recently in trying to watch "Nurse Jackie". (And yes, I subscribe to showtime). Basically, OnDemand is EXTREMELY slow (2-3 second response time to a button press), and has way too many "Technical Difficulties". Netflix and Roku never have this issue - why cant Cox fix OnDemand??

Is the cable line straight from the wall to the receiver or is there a splitter?

There are splitters I believe. Cox technicians installed the outlets. I have old house and had to get Cox to put in the outlets. I have three active outlets, two on the DVR whole house system and one without a box.

Stephanie A,
No I cannot bypass splitter.
I have no idea how many splitters are in my house nor where they are located. I do see a junction box on the exterior of my house, but I am not gonna open up a Cox-installed piece of equipment. Cox installed everything, why would they put in a splitter if it causes issues?
Thanks

One Cable, that goes into the Cox Whole House DVR Box which is a Cisco Explorer 8642HDC model.

Stephanie,a few minutes after 11 eastern, wed, my box shut off by itself then rebooted. When it did, NO CHANNEL was available error code 3.1.4.2 I think. It took a looooong time to reboot, with no channels. I then used the online tool to reset and it finally worked. On Demand still has occasional errors and button response is way too slow.

Stephanie,
I answered you - one cable. This is typical of Cox service, ask a bunch of questions, then ignore the problems.

I apologize for the delay. At this point, I suggest scheduling a technician to come out to get this resolved. We schedule 7 days a week in 2 hour time slots, 8-10, 10-12, 1-3, 3-5, and 5-7. Please email me with the best day and time to cox.help@cox.com and I will see if it's available. -Stephanie
