No wireless

I have a Scientific Atlanta 2100 modem. I had a Linksys WRT54GS wireless G router. No problems for about the past 4 years. I was able to connect my laptop, iPad and iPhone. Saturday 5/18/13 I was no longer able to get a wireless connection. I've checked all the cords, reset the modem and router and still nothing. When I connect my laptop directly to the modem I can connect wired. Thinking it was the router, I went and bought a WD MyNet 600 router. Still the same thing. When I connect the router, it finds the wired and wireless connections, but says No Internet access on both. Again when I connect directly to the modem I can get a wired connection. I brought my laptop to a friend's and am able to connect to their wireless connection, so I don't think it's my adaptor. I disabled then uninstalled Avast Free and disabled Windows 7 firewall.

What else can I try? Anyone know how to check the modem settings to see if somehow that's blocking the wireless access?

There's nothing in the modem that you can change that could block wireless access. The modem doesn't care what it's connected to-ethernet is ethernet, TCP/IP is TCP/IP.

However, you do need to remember to unplug power to the modem and power it back on every time you change the device connected to the ethernet port. It hangs on to the MAC address of the first device connected after each powercycle and won't talk to anything different until it's powercycled again.

This article shows the order to connect and power everything to get the network in sync the fastest.

Replacing the router should have fixed the issue with your devices not seeing wireless.  When connecting a new router the modem needs to be powered off in order for the Internet to work between the modem and the router.  If you're still having issues I'd say there's something else going on that may require a trouble call to troubleshoot further.

Thanks Chris. Just called and I have to pay $9.99 per month extra for Home Network support. Don't think I'll go that route. I may have to look into UVerse from AT&T.

The router tech support tried helping me but they think the router is not passing the internet connection through to the router.

For the life of me I can't figure out why it stopped working..no updates were installed to my computer that day.

It's possible that there is a modem issue still.  Considering from what you described it seems likely your previous router did die.  I'd say it's possible too that there was a surge that may have damaged both.  Technical support won't provide router support without the monthly home networking charge however you can try testing without the router.  If you still have problems getting online with just the modem connected to a PC we can definitely send a technician to troubleshoot that setup further.  Once that is working you should be able to reconnect the router and if necessary work with Western Digital's support on the home networking end of things.
