We can receive your complaint. What model Contour receiver do you have? I may suggest a work around to place a transparent colored piece of plastic of your chosing over the LED. If you still wish to see the front display, this is a way I've used personally.

It is the latest that you have. I believe it is a GSH4742 model.

I regret the Cisco Explorer 4742HDC High Definition Receiver doesn't have a setting to adjust the brightness or change the color of the Front LED Display.
