New 300MB/s Service in San Diego with a Home Phone Modem.
HEllo, when checking the COX site i recently discovered that the San Diego, CA area has been upgraded to 300MB/s on the ultimate plan, which with the bundle I currently subscribe to includes, however I am still getting 150MB/s speeds and according to what I read here i will need at least a 16x4 cable modem to recieve the 300 speeds.
Unfortunately the Home Phone modem that cox provides is 8x4, are there any plas to offer a 16x4 home phone modem on COX, and if not can i just purchase a 16x4 modem and skip the home phone part of it even while still paying for it under my bundle (its cheaper that way) There is not and will never be a phone connected to the modem.

Go into your local store and ask to rent the Arris TG2472. That is a 24-channel EMTA, it's $9.99 per month to rent.

Actually it's a MTA gateway. Doesn't come with battery backup unless you buy the battery, and is a gateway (routing function) is included. If they currently have a router attached to their 8x4 eMTA, then it might cause problems.
Also, they would have to pay for a modem they used to get for free. Cox needs to find a 16+ channel phone and data only gateway.

You don't have to use the MTA for your internet service. You can purchase or rent a different modem with the capabilities of getting the faster speeds.
