My SBG6580 just came in the mail about 2 hours ago and after doing a speed test I've found that my speeds are actually worse than what they were when I was using the SB5101 this morning which were around 30Mbps, now they are at 12Mbps.
Why is this happening? This feels like $120 wasted, I was hoping to get up 50Mbps that my preferred plan says I can get.

My recommendation is to send the SBG6580 back for a refund. I fought problems with that gateway for four months with various visits from Cox technicians. I finally purchased a standalone modem and all the problems went away. I then added a separate router. I now have two SBG6580 gateways for sale; cheap.

Excerpt from the article:
"DOCSIS 3.0: The current industry standard of DOCSIS, and works with all Cox High Speed Internet packages. Many DOCSIS 3.0 devices are also IPv6 compliant. DOCSIS 3.0 modems are capable of channel bonding, which enables multiple downstream and upstream channels to be used together at the same time by a single user. The more channels a device can bond, the higher the speeds it can achieve.
DOCSIS 3.0 modem:
8 x 4 channels (8 downstream and 4 upstream): This is the newest generation modem and is recommended for all Cox High Speed Internet customers, regardless of the package that you select to support future speed increases.
I hope this information proves helpful in the decision making process. Please feel free to reach out to us for additional help. We can be reached via: Facebook, and Twitter @COXHELP or email, cox.help@cox.com We are here from 6am to 3am EST.
