We are wondering is it possible to set up a time frame (i.e. 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM) where there will be no Internet access for certain devices (i.e. laptop, PCs and iPads) in our household? If this is possible, can it be controlled by the cable modem or wireless router? Or do we need to install software on the devices?
Cox Internet Configuration: 1) Cox High Speed Internet Preferred; 2) Cable Modem; 3) Wireless router...except for one device, all of the remaining devices are connected via wireless.
Your suggestions and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Which modem or router are you using? Many do have a feature built into either the firewall or parental controls that allow you to control when/what can access the internet at any given time. There are also software solutions for some devices (PCs etc) that can do similar things. The problem is that what you want to do is at the edge of what consumer equipment can handle - it is usually more of an enterprise routing/firewall feature.
If you are looking for devices capable of this function (it is always better to do this on the router/gateway) - most of the AC1200+ routers can support this type of functionality, they just might not all call it the same thing. So let us know which equipment you have, and we can help steer you in the right direction, or help locate the instructions on how to do it with your current equipment.

Going through the router is the better way, but another way is using a old fashion electric timer on the outlet that powers the router. I would not suggest these if you have "dirty power" as they can make it worse and cause problems in the long term.
