Is Cox Cloud Drive Backup a serious backup solution?

I have been using the PC client for the Cox Cloud Drive for over half a year now. At first it seemed to be performing well, backing up all files in the folders I'd picked for daily, scheduled backup. Over the last couple of months, a number of files, from one of the folders are no longer backed up consistently. The failing files are around 500 MB in size, and it's not always the same files that fail on a given day.

The failure code is almost always 801 (Could not contact server). When I force an immediate backup, and get this error, I can watch the file being backed up by the progress bar and byte count. When the entire file appears to have been transmitted to Cox, the error code is returned. On occasion, I've also seen error code 802 (Unable to contact the server) where the file transfer fails immediately without seeing any progress of transmission.

Based on what I've observed, I believe code 802 is returned when my Cloud Drive client fails to connect to the front end cloud server. I believe the 801 code is returned after the file has been completely transferred to the front end server but that server fails to connect to the back end server. I'm guessing on the architecture used, but this seems like a reasonable design.

The folder in which these files reside is one I created solely to contain these files which are from various other folders. The files are copied into this target folder once a day, well in advance of the backup time to ensure they are completely static and not locked by any process. I did this on advice of a Cloud Drive second level help representative.

This representative also told me that files of certain types were ignored by the backup client, and that some files will fail to be backed up based on content. These comments, and my experience with the daily backup failures has led me to ask the subject question. These same files are routinely backed up successively by other solutions such as IDrive, Microsoft's One Drive, and Google Drive. Cox Cloud Drive is the only one experiencing this issue.

My hope is to find a person in Cox Cloud Drive development who is technically competent and willing to take this issue forward to resolution. If there is a better forum to discuss this, I'd be happy to post this issue there.

Thanks,

Tim

Michaelj, been there, done that. The problem with that number is they have a script to follow, and are happy to tell you that if you change the name of the offending file, and it backs up successfully, problem solved. That is just one of their "solutions"; none of which really solve anything. What I'd really like is a contact who has technical knowledge of the product, and can follow through to get this resolved.
