You should try the arris sb6190 modem paired with the netgear r8500 router and enable igmp proxy and ipv6 in the router settings. I use that and it can handle 3 devices streaming 4k and downloading large files at once comfortably.

I live in a ranch style home.  So I need a router with gigabit Ethernet ports.

I would not suggest the SB6190. It has known latency bugs. Try the Netgear CM600 and Asus RT-AC68R.

Nothing to do with your style of home.  You need gigabit Ethernet ports to support the speeds of Ultimate ... up to 300Mbps.  If you have a router with Fast Ethernet (100Mbps) that will limit you, you will never get above that 100Mbps.

Thanks. I might buy one myself. My RT-N66U is getting long in the tooth. The only thing that concerns me is it's a RT-AC68R instead of RT-AC68U. I know the R just stands for retail, but I don't like buying something that doesn't have many reviews. Checking the firmware, it looks to be the same. However, Google  says the R is for any unit they sell through Best Buy.  If you look, both Amazon and Newegg have them on sale, but Newegg's price is better. My guess is Best Buy had a bunch of stock left over and sold them to online retailers to sell. That "shouldn't" effect the quality, but it's something to keep in mind. 

The firmware and hardware should be the same - I have the RT-68W (white vs U vs R) and it uses the standard Asus/Merlin RT-68U firmware.  If you buy it from a reputable retailer - look for the following CPU, as older versions had an 800MHz CPU:

Either you are one of the few not effected by the issue or your testing methods aren't detailed enough to pick up the problem. If you aren't effected, then it would help to understand why, because maybe it could help those who are effected.

This is now a widely discussed issue, effecting at-least 3 different models, each by a different manufacture. See this thread to see what testing tools they used if want to try to replicate.
