Internet speed with new 3.0 modem not at 50mbps

I had an old 2.0 modem and upgraded to the new 3.0 modem that cox sent me.  My speed is only 28mbps.  I thought with the new modem that i should be seeing speeds up to 50mbps?  I thought that cox increased there speeds but I'm not seeing it.  Anyone else having the same issues?

By chance are you using a wireless-G router still?  If so you may not see any improvement until that is addressed as well.  They typically max out right around 30Mbps or so.

My router is an 4th gen airport extreme which is a n- router.
