How to deactivate wireless on the CG3000D-RG?

Agreed, I would love to disable the wireless on this modem. I have a 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz dual broadband router running my wireless and the CG3000D-RG is not needed.

Please update and allow us to disable this feature.

The latest firmware disables the toggle feature along with the physical button on the front of the router.  I called Cox tech support and they patched me into an Engineer.  I said, my neighborhood is saturated with wireless and I want to use an access point that is stronger than the router.  He piddled around couldn't figure it out and basically told me to ignore the wireless and said it would still work...  Geez, come on... it will work poorly by stepping all over each other.  

Do you have another router you would like to use instead?

If so go to http://192.168.0.1/RgNatControl.asp and uncheck the box to turn it into modem mode.  Everything speeds up (well it did for me)

To access the config page you will need to use http://192.168.100.1 instead of http://192.168.0.1 for example...

Disabling the SSID broadcast on the CG3000D actually disables the wireless.

Disabling the Service Set Identifier (SSID) broadcast does NOT disable wireless access to the router.  It disables the broadcast of beacon frames which announce the presence and SSID name of the WLAN. The WLAN remains active and accessible.

Cox installed this same Residential Gateway complete with default admin and password settings, which is admin:password, and UPNP turned on. Not a secure practice.  Plus I was left with the outer carton of the equipment listing the mac and serial number, and told the password to the WLAN was the serial number.  No information card on network configuration like DNS servers, passwords, etc,.

Now on top of that COX moderators passing bad configuration on wireless settings.  

Still looking for way to turn off WLAN and use the gateway wired only.  

I checked again with our lab sample and disabling SSID broadcost on the CG3000D does indeed disable the wireless.  I understand this is not normal behavior for a standard wireless router however in the case with the Netgear gateway we issue it does disable the wireless broadcast.

No it doesn't.

I did test it myself and it does indeed work as described despite this being contrary to how normal routers work.  If you disable the SSID broadcast devices will not be able to connect to the wireless even if the SSID is known to the device trying to connect.  Perhaps the gateway itself just needs a factory reset if this procedure isn't working.

So you are saying that proper operation includes a security vulnerability?

What security vulnerability are you speaking of?

That's strange indeed.  When I tested our lab model the wireless does not transmit when the SSID broadcast is disabled.  I attempted to connect with several devices by specifying the non-broadcast SSID name and they all failed.

MAC filter, LAN IP settings, Security Options? Does it make sense to you that disabling the broadcast SSID also disables the wireless? Do you have a different type of access to the device?

No it makes no sense however specifically for this device the disabled SSID broadcast is intended to disable wifi broadcast.

It doesn't. Maybe you could provide supporting documentation?
