How soon do I lose my email address when canceling service
Moving in with a friend. Will be using her service provider - Verizon. How long can I keep my cox email address, to assist with transitioning? I understand I can't pay to keep it, correct? Not even for a little while? Does it just die on the last day I have service? Thanks, Jeff

For starters, we're sorry to see you leave. You are correct that the option to continue email service is no longer available. As to your other question, email service does discontinue when your account is closed. For that reason you may wish to notify your contacts sooner rather than later of your planned changes.

They used to allow you to pay $10 a month to keep your webmail account. Not any more. One person said that they got to keep their email service for apx 20 days after canceling. Please come back and tell us exactly when your email stopped. We can pass along the information. This question gets asked a lot.

What is allowed and what is possible is not always the same thing. I know it takes a lot of money to change their customer database, so I doubt the code to make that work has been removed. Maybe disabled with a prereq. but not removed.
I think that depends on what email server you actually connect to get your mail. You can find out by looking at your email headers or telneting into the server and it will give it's name on hello. Unfortunately, but understandably, Cox doesn't list what servers have what technical policy. So instead they make a general policy of telling people it's gone as soon as canceled for CYA. Someone might be mad if they email is canceled "early" but no one is going to get mad if their email account stays active for a couple extra days.
I could go on about this for days, but I don't want to make the mods too angry.
