Empty folders?

Good morning, I use Thunderbird and decided to switched from POP to IMAP. I had years of saved mails in numerous folders and after creating the IMAP account I dropped all the POP folders into the IMAP account. After transfering all the folders they showed up in the COX IMAP Server with their contents. After double checking a few times that everything was present I went ahead and deleted the POP account. Later on suddenly all the folders were empty; what is the reasont that may cause this? I was hesitant to switch from POP but the ability to see all the folders from whatever client device was alluring as I travel alot. Yes, when making the switch from POP to IMAP I had checked "Leave messages on the server" as the guidlines suggested doing this will prevent loss of messages; now I am wihtou years of messages. Simple question is what caused this? Thanks in advance...

Hi John,

It doesn't sound like the accounts synced properly for some reason. When you log into your Cox.net Webmail account with your Cox User ID and password, are all your folders still there?

If the folders are no longer in Webmail, it is possible that the folders mistakingly synched to the wrong account. Are you able to log in to your other accounts to check on the folders?

Hi Becky and thank you for your input, most appreciated; Yes all the folders that I originally migrated from the POP  to the IMAP account are still there in the Webmail account as well as in my client(s) IMAP devices, only they are all empty now which was not the case initially. I don't understand how the folders could have synched to the wrong account, I only have one.

I can only speculate at this point that something wasn't done right or a step was missed when migrating to IMAP access.  If the message aren't in webmail or your PC they are gone.   I see you signed up with an email address from another provider which is probably why it was suggested you check some of your other accounts to see if the messages were mistakenly moved there.

Good Morning ChrisL,

Read my first post again  " After transfering all the folders they showed up in the COX IMAP Server with their contents. After double checking a few times that everything was present I went ahead and deleted the POP account. Later on suddenly all the folders were empty;"

They were migrated succesfully and how I signed up is neither here nor there and certainly not something you need to bring up in a forum and yes, I have been into my other provider's accounts and they are fine and unchange. A  Cox IMAP account ending up elsewhere is  ludicrous to suggest. When I tried CHAT earlier the Cox Rep that I was connected to did not know the difference between a Client and a Server, he kept asking me what Server I was using. I gave up with that avenue.

If you can provide some input that may assist in solving this matter I would be most appreciative. Right now I am seriously contemplating going back to using a POP account given I have that profile saved.

Based on the information provided I think the contents may have been lost without any practical means of explaining how.  You can certainly switch back to POP access if you feel more comfortable with that however if the contents of the folders in question are no longer in the email client switching probably won't restore them.  If you have been backing up your PC at all you may be able to restore them that way.
