Whats the error? And do you mean "are being received"? Maybe are not being received? I don't understand your question by the way your wording it since your subject is a problem with sending, not receiving. Could you rephrase?

Sorry for confusion.

I send emails but people never get them.  I send an email from my cox account to my gmail account.  Never appears in my gmail.  I can receive all.

I have no idea how long this has been accruing as no error message appears.  Found out this am when a friend asked why I was not sending any emails.

That tells me so much more. Thank you

When you say account, you mean Webmail.cox.net right?

Try sending yourself a email to the same Cox email address your sending from. That will rule out any Cox > gmail issues Also make sure its a blank email, with no signatures or anything like that. Just Test in subject and body.

If that works, send the same email to the gmail, and see if that goes through. If it doesn't work, I will have to brainstorm more.

Thanks for your help.

On Dell laptop, I use Thunderbird.  On Ipad, I use the mail program.

If I use Cox Web Mail. it works.  If I use Thunderbird or Ipad mail programs to send an email to myself, it says they are sent but they are never in my inbox.  Talked to Cox, my settings are correct.

Oh, ok. That changes things. Web access works, SMTP does not. Sounds similar to the issue that happened a couple weeks ago but that was giving a password error. Multiple clients, so not a client issue. Hmmmmm.

Happen to have any experience in command prompt? If so, you should be able to figure out the problem using Telnet but its not exactly user friendly. You could also use the Thunderbird mail logs by using this process, but again, not for the laymen.

I feel like I am missing something obvious. I assume you are using the normal SMTP.cox.net with no authentication and no SSL on port 25? Anyone else have any ideas?

I have know talked to several tech people at Cox who say there is nothing wrong with my settings.  I have talked to Bell Mobility, my internet provider in Canada who says they never block outgoing email.  What has Cox done to change the ability to send emails when not in a Cox region with direct cox service?  Why am I paying them $7.95 a month to continue to use my email address and it was working till maybe a week ago.  I just found out this morning that people were not receiving my mail.  I tried to send an email to myself and my google account.  Neither were ever received even though it said they were sent.  It works from Web Mail but I prefer to use the Thunderbird program and Ipad mail.

How do I escalate this matter with Cox?  I am so frustrated and have no idea which emails were never received at this point.  Copy and paste to web mail or google is a lot of trouble.

Wow, wait a second. Did not know you were sending from a wireless carrier in Canada. That changes everything. What SMTP settings are you currently using? Also, do you use multiple SMTP servers for the different devices? For instance, is the Ipad set up to send via Cox SMTP and Bell SMTP, depending on the user?

I am using smtp.west.cox.net   port 465  ssl/tls on in Thunderbird  Ipad uses smtp.cox.net

I have some computer knowledge and checking out the thunderbird mail logs.  Will look at the telnet stuff if I can make sense of it.

Thanks

Both PC and IPad set to just use cox smtp as I indicated.  Again....it worked up till about a week ago.  Something changed at Cox, I am sure.  Mail send via google over internet works fine as does Cox Web Mail.

SSL will work on both 465 and 587, but TLS might have issues with 465. Probably better to force SSL on 465. The important part is that you have SMTP authentication on outbound. But you would think both these issues would cause error on send/receive sync so I am only mentioning this because most everything else has been explored.

Yea, I think that might be needed. I feel the issue has something to do with the transaction to Cox SMTP from the Bell .CA ISP. This article has some good info that might help.

Thanks for info but really think either Cox or Bell made a change this past week end.  I do not use port 25 and again, I changed nothing.  Emails send out Fri, April 25 went as normal and were received by contacts.  Emails I sent out Sat, April 26 were never received.

Who do I follow up with for this issue.?

Depends on what you think the problem is. So far you have symptoms, without data on the problem I don't see how they can help. If its a IP block, either the logs or telnet will tell you, and then you can contact the Cox Postmaster here. but be sure to use these guidelines for any logs or attachments. If its some other kind of rejection, it will depend on the issue and "where" its occuring. If its inside Cox I might be able to find additional Cox contacts. If its inside Bell, then I can look for more info. But its not the kind of thing someone can just "fix" with the info provided.

If your asking for a Cox contact to work with, then the email address for this forum is  cox.help@cox.com but it would probably be better to first get one of the moderators attention so they can be expecting it. Sorry I havent been of more help. I will wait to respond anymore until I see a mod post.

Thanks for your help but you leave me stranded.  I do not have the computer skills to provide "data"as you request.  I went to the web sites you suggested and it is greek to me.  I just know that on Sat, it failed to send.

It seems that the help desk at Cox will again give me a run around.  I am a 69 year old women who has had an Cox account for 20 years and this is the help I get!

Guess it is time to give up my cox email address and just rely on the virus infected web mail such as google.

CDNAZ,

Are you having this problem with the same email address that you registered for forums with? If so, the login is not showing any SMTP authentication activity.  Are the sent emails showing up in your Sent folder?
If the email address is different than what you registered with forums I'll need to know what address you're having the problem with. You can send that info to cox.help@cox.com along with the headers from the sent messages so we can try to figure out what is going on.
In addition, you should probably remove the ".west" from your settings. The outgoing server address is smtp.cox.net

What does your age or gender have to do with anything? How do you know I am also not a 69 year old women?

Yes. This is the help you get when you come to a free public forum. If you want someone to fix the problem for you, hire a local private IT.

I was going to wait until a moderator chimed in and then continue to help, but now you have offended me. Good bye.
