I'm getting connect failures from my mail client quite frequently.
I just signed onto web mail and was able to see a couple of emails. Didn't want them so checked delete and got nothing just a hanging session.
Getting to be a bit aggravating...

What email program are you using? Can you provide the exact error message that you are seeing when you try to check your email? Did you refresh the screen in Webmail? Are the messages gone now or are they still there?

Mail client "Thunderbird" just failed again with:
Sending of password for user usbethjim did not succeed. Mail server pop.east.cox.net responded: mail storage services unavailable, wait a few minutes and try again.
That's it - it comes and goes - annoying

I have done as you ask. Did I miss the memo on this change or is this a diagnostic only change?
I'll let y'all know if the errors return.
Thanks
Jim

I am seeing the exact same problem. All emails account associated with my primary account (wife and kids) go offline at the same time, and I am getting incoming mail bounced when the accounts are off line.
Oh, and I have changed to using pop.cox.net. That did not seem to help.
Mark.

I have a process that pulls the email down from the POP server once a minute. I have several accounts that I do this with, and they all drop of at the same time ("login refused"), and are off line for ~8 minutes. If any incoming mail is sent while the process cannot access the accounts, they get bounced back to the sender as no such account.
This happens randomly, but seems to happen mostly in the early mornings (3:00am MST to 7:00am), but can happen anytime during the day.
We went over a week with out a problem, but it started up again yesterday.
I have been running the process for several years without a problem until about a month or two ago. I was ignoring the problem until I discovered that incoming mail is getting bounced.
Mark.

I have not heard of any of the mail servers having bonce backs as a response when issues with delays are occuring, but we can certainly look into it further. Do you happen to have access to or can get a copy of one of the bounce back errors when it occurs?

I've been having connection failures with my Cox email accounts for some time. I changed the settings to pop.cox.net and smtp.cox.net a long time ago, but that solves nothing.
I get a "can't connect" error on two accounts several times a day - every day.

Are you seeing the issues with the timeout messages on logging in more during specific times of day or is it completely random when it happens?

This is what I get. It happens with all Cox accounts and it's random, any time of day or night.

Last night I used the Chat Tech Support feature because I could not get my POP3 account to work. Even by removing the "west' in the settings I still got a time out error. When I set up an IMAP account it seemed to work but I don't want to use IMAP. We couldn't figure out why the POP3 server wasn't working but because webmail was working the tech agent said that the issue must be with Outlook. LOL. Anyhow, I went to bed on it and today the POP3 is working fine. I am using Outlook2010.

@Muse
ZDon't waste your time worrying about settings, etc. The Cox email servers have had problems since November - look at the over 40 posts on the Forum. There is nothing you can do to fix it except filing a claim with the FCC and becoming a squeeky wheel. There is no uses solution and Cox is unwilling to fix the infrastructure that causes the problems to occur.

I, too, am having major connectivity issues with email, through Outlook, through my smartphone and thru webmail. I contacted Cox customer service about a month ago (this issue has gone on for a couple of months) and the tech told me that Cox was aware of the problem and the "back way" of getting into webmail was webmail.cox.net. Oh, yeah? If ColleenD's 'Fix" above is correct and it indeed works, wouldn't it have been nice had Cox notified all users to take "east" out of the server settings? Not a very happy customer here. Jeez.

You mentioned you're not having an issue with the POP3 with Outlook 2010 at this time. Since you went into the settings and removed the west from incoming and outgoing, did you also clear your sent folder? If this happens, please report the error you've seen and if this happens after attempting to send email. Have there been troubles receiving as well, or just sending?
