DVR Recording won't Playback

We're new to Cox and still learning. Today I tried to play a show I'd recorded but got an error message saying there was problem and I should try again in a few minutes. Two hours later I'm still getting the same message. It says to call and reference "2.1.2.1". Is this something that happens often?

Hi cindycat,

Are you having this problem on all your TVs? Can you verify the model of the receivers you get this message?

2.1.2.1 is a general MoCA error between host (big dvr) and client (small box) on Contour type recievers. When was the system installed? Did it work then? I bet there is a cable or splitter out of spec between the two units.

....except that I am having the same problem on BOTH host dvr and the client dvr.  Only shows recorded today are having a problem.  Older shows will play on both dvrs.  My system was installed about a month ago and has mostly worked.  Have had some other strange issues but cannot duplicate them. One day my tv kept changing from cnn to another channel.  This was NOT recorded.

This sounds different from the problem the orginal poster had. which was probably a wiring issue causing conflict with MoCA. Do you get exactly the same error? If not, you might want to make a new thread so it gets the attention it deserves and doesn't derail this thread.

I have a similar problem and was told that it was caused by a system-wide issue. I just posted on it in this forum under the heading Software Update Causing System-Wide Contour Issues...

In my case, I can watch recorded programs using the host (main) box, but I get a similar error message when I try to access and view recordings on my client box. Are you unable to play back the recording on all of your boxes, or does it work on some but not others?

Thanks for the info! @  Is April 13th when the problem started for you too? Or has your problem been going on longer?

Here is my current configuration:

Host: CISCO 9865HDC        2 Clients both Explorers 4642HDC

The problems are:

One the Clients at least 20-30% of the recorded shows will not load to be able to watch .  It will say loading and never load.  There are work arounds that sometimes work; reboot the whole network or start the show on the host TV and then it will work on the Client.  Sometimes these work sometimes they do not.  (Yes, the network house is visible on host and client at all times)

I primarily watch on the clients (in my office) the pause/rewind feature does not most work most of the time.  I get error messages, that its unavailable, or if it does work it will jump back an hour or completely freeze causing me to hit the live button.

We have had nothing but problems since we put in the Whole Home DVR 6 to 8 months ago.  We have had at least 4 techs come out and each has done something a little different; added a filter to the modem, added a filter to the junction box, added an amplifier, cut the ends of each coax and replaced but the problems remain.  We have replaced the hosts and the clients once or twice but have the same problems.  Our home is 12 years old and the wires were pre-run throughout the house.
