Drastically lowered speeds?

I am currently paying for the preferred package from Cox and have rarely had any issues. Today however I've noticed that my downloads and page loads have been going very slow. I used the speed check for my account as well as a third party check on speedtest.net and both are showing me getting a download speed of barely 5mbps when I'm paying for 25mbps and usually getting 30-36mbps.

There is nothing going on in my neighborhood as far as line maintenance that I'm aware of. Anyone else in the Hampton Roads area getting this issue too?

I've heard that reprovisioning the modem may help in these situations as well if it's a DOCSIS 3.0 modem like mine is, as they tend to be provisioned for DOCSIS 2.0 by default.

The provisioning issue only effects people with Premier. I could explain why but its boring.

Are you doing the tests with a computer hardwired to the modem?

Also, what kind of modem do you have? If you know how, posting the modems signal levels will help, which can be usually found on the modems 192.168.100.1 webpage, but I can give specifics once I know what you have.

If it matters, Im in RI and no problems. Anyone in VA feel free to post though.

PC is connected via a wired connection to a router which is wired to the modem. The modem in question is a Motorola Surfboard SB6120.

I've never had problem like this until today.

Your upstream is a bit high at 51. But your downstream and SNR is pretty low. I would suggest bypassing the router and go direct PC to modem and see if that clears it up.

What kind of router is it?

Also, what area are you from? A thread just came up with similar download speeds. May/may not be relevant.

It's resolved now. Just came home from work and everything is back to normal. Must have just been a random hiccup which is normal for this area, just never seen the speed drop like that.

Bumping this to report the very same issue again. It seems to occur at night and in the early morning when it does happen (and rarely so.)

Could there be an issue with a line in the area? Once we were experiencing frequent outages in this area and a technician sent out found the line out on the street to be damaged.

City of Portsmouth, Zip code 23702 for area relevance.
