Unless you have a second telephone line, the Tel 2 port on the back of your modem is not active. If you are considering incorporating a fax, you have multiple options. 1) You can add a second phone line that will activate the port on the back of the modem. 2) You can add the distinctive ring feature. This will create a virtual number for your fax and it will ring a different cadence from your main line when receiving a fax. This will also require you to use a phone splitter. A phone splitter will allow you to have a handset as well as a fax machine connected to one port at the same time.
