Did Cox sell my number to telemarketers???

I have had my new number a total of 4 days and I am already receiving telemarketing calls. When I asked where they got my number, they said, "this is a new number, is it not?" 

Now, there are not many ways that these creeps could already have my number, and the #1 way would be if Cox was selling our numbers to these bothersome companies.

So I am on a 30-day trial with Cox...and my experiences so far (cable, phone, and internet) have been subpar. But this may be the straw that broke the camel's back. 

I have registered my number with the Do Not Call list, and I expect Cox -- WHOM I PAY -- NOT to sell my number to any other companies.

Kem, Cox does not sell your telephone number. Telemarketers use Auto-Dialers to call prospective customers. These are automated computers which run through consecutive telephone numbers until they reach a live person. In addition to this, all telephone numbers are recycled, therefore they may have this telephone number on file from the previous owner. Placing your number on the Do Not Call list is the best option to remove yourself from all telemarketing phone lists.

There is another option.  Cox could update their telephone service and a feature to allow their customers to use 'community' spam lists.  Some of their newer competition already does.  I like Cox Communications, they need to stay competitive in features and price.

I now send anonymous callers and people on the spam lists directly to voicemail.  Our phone is ringing much less often now.
