Deleted Shows Disappear before I manually delete or recover

How long are Deleted shows saved in the Deleted section? I was told by Cox that they remain until space is needed, or until manually deleted or recovered. Mine seem to be deleting after a few days. If I deleted but another family member wanted to watch, I could recover. Now they seem to disappear pretty quickly.

Hello Fishie,

I can confirm that deleted recordings will stay in the recently deleted folder until permanently deleted by the user or until the system auto deletes it when the hard drive fills up and space is needed.

Hi. I can confirm that my deleted programs disappear on their own. Last evening I had about 23. This morning I have 12. I will now keep a list of the shows in the deleted folder and keep track of which ones magically disappear. Very frustrating. I rebooted as well, and still only 12 this morning.

I apologize for the delay in answering your post. I was going to suggest that we send a tech out to possibly replace the DVR. I can see that there's already a work order set up. Please feel free to reach back out here if you have any further trouble.

My experience is the same.  My "Recently Deleted" programs definitely get erased within a day or two.

For example, today is Monday.  I typically delete 1 or 2 programs per day.  However, I just looked, and the only programs I see in my "Recently Deleted" folder are programs I just deleted yesterday (Sunday).  Less than 24 hrs ago.  Nothing prior to that.

A half hour ago I had 41. I now have 12. Geesh. A tech is scheduled for Wednesday. They suspect a bad hard drive.

I just took a look at your account and can see that both of the smaller boxes are having trouble getting a good cable signal. You've also got a work order set up for the 25th. I went ahead and added your DVR issue to that work order. It looks like you asked for an earlier time frame to have a tech out. There are quite a few earlier options. Today there are some openings, there's a 1-3pm, 3-5pm and a 5-7pm available. For tomorrow, Tuesday the 24th we've got an 8-10am, 10am-Noon, 1-3pm, 3-5pm and 5-7pm. If one of those will work for you please reach back out here ASAP so I can grab it for you. These time frames will go very quickly.

It definitely sounds like a hard-drive issue. I've got some earlier appointments available for you as well if you'd like. Today there's a 3-5pm and a 5-7pm. Tomorrow, Tuesday, there's an 8-10am, 10am-Noon, 1-3pm, 3-5pm and a 5-7pm. Please let me know ASAP if you'd like to reschedule or keep your current appointment for Wednesday the 25th between 8-10am.

Stephanie,

I will take the Tuesday 24th 8-10am if still available.

If not, please call me to arrange a time.  This forum is not the most efficient communication method.

Hi, sadly that time frame is no longer available. The soonest available at this time is going to be the one that you're scheduled for. Sorry about that!

A quick update.

The tech came out last Wednesday 10/25 and added a signal booster to the TV portion of my cabling.

At this point (Sunday morning 10/29) I now have 28 Recently Deleted programs.  That's more than I have ever seen.  Historically the deleted programs have only stuck around 2-3 days max.

But before drawing any absolute conclusions I need to let more time go by.  If I get to at least a week and the Recently Deleted number is still incrementing, then I'd say we're onto something.  For now, I just wanted to update the forum with the latest status.

This problem is not fixed.

Yesterday I had 28 Recently Deleted programs.

Today I have only 12 Recently Deleted programs.

My disk is only 55% full.

If they are supposed to stick around until space is needed, then why are they disappearing?!?!?

TK-70,

How many shows do you have scheduled to record? The amount of shows scheduled to record will change how many shows are deleted to save space.

Stephanie,

That's the first reasonable explanation I have heard about this phenomenon, even though I'm baffled by the design.

I do have a lot of regularly scheduled recordings, as I suspect most people do.  If there is an easy way to obtain the number of shows I have scheduled, I will get it for you.

It sounds like you're saying that Recently Deleted programs are deleted in anticipation of future recordings needing the space. Is that what you are saying?

That doesn't seem like a great design at all.  DVRs I have owned in the past purge programs only when space is needed.  If my Contour 2 was hovering around 90%-95% full, I expect programs to get deleted to recover space for new recordings.  But I don't expect anything to get deleted at 55% full.

Are you saying the Recently Deleted folder is treated differently than the Saved recordings folder?

Thanks,

Tom
